      Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem influenced by food systems, food access, and dietary patterns. This study examined the association of food waste, food expenditure share, and dietary patterns with stunting prevalence across 32 provinces in Indonesia in 2023. An ecological study was conducted using secondary data from 32 provinces. Food waste, food expenditure share, and dietary patterns represented by the Desirable Dietary Pattern (DDP) score were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The regression model was significant (p<0.001) with an Adjusted R2 of 0.539. Food waste was not significantly associated with stunting prevalence (B=0.123; p=0.188), whereas food expenditure share (B=0.447: p=0.016) and the DDP deficit score (B=0.721; p<0.001) showed significant positive associations. These findings suggest that economic access to food and dietary patterns are more strongly associated with provincial variation in stunting prevalence than the food waste indicator.
