      Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is caused by long-term inadequate nutritional intake; identified by Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) of <23.5 cm; and causes pregnancy complications, congenital abnormalities, and low birth weight. This research used secondary data from Survei Kesehatan Indonesia (SKI) 2023 with cross-sectional study design to analyze the risk factors for CED in pregnant women in Indonesia. Inclusion criteria were pregnant women, which involved 4515 pregnant women, with 566 experiencing CED (12.5%) and 3949 not experiencing CED (87.5%). Significant associations were found between the maternal age, residential area, household size, parity, birth interval, sanitations, tuberculosis (TBC), consumption of legumes, and consumption of eggs with the occurrence of CED among pregnant women. Factors contributing to the risk of CED among pregnant women in Indonesia include maternal age catgorized as at risk (<20 or >30 years old), resident of rural area, having a household size of = 5 members, having a high-risk pregnancy interval (< 2 years), lack access to latrine facilities, and having tuberculosis. TBC is the strongest risk factor (OR: 8,547), thus TB screening should be included as part of antenatal care (ANC) examinations.
