      Abstract

Startup funding in Southeast Asia declined after the 2021 funding boom and entered a more selective funding environment. This study analyzes the effects of market size, IPO activity, and regulatory quality on startup funding in selected ASEAN countries during 2019–2024. The study uses balanced panel data from six countries: Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The dependent variable is startup equity funding based on the headquarters country, while the independent variables are GDP current US$, IPO funds raised, and Regulatory Quality. The data are analyzed using panel data regression with the Two-Way Fixed Effect model and White period robust standard errors. The results show that none of the three independent variables has a statistically significant partial effect on startup funding. Country and year fixed effects play an important role in explaining funding variation. These findings indicate that ASEAN startup funding is more closely related to structural country characteristics and regional funding-cycle dynamics than to annual changes in country-level indicators.
