      Abstract

Adolescent obesity is an increasing public health concern, particularly in urban areas with high access to fast food and sedentary lifestyles. This study aimed to examine the associations of food away from home (FAFH) frequency, diet quality, and sedentary activity with obesity risk among adolescents in Bogor City, Indonesia. This study employed a cross-sectional design involving 126 students from three public senior high schools in Bogor City, selected through cluster random sampling at the district level. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and anthropometric measurements and analyzed using Spearman correlation, Mann–Whitney, and multiple linear regression. Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between FAFH frequency (rs = 0.210, p = 0.018), diet quality (rs = -0.200, p = 0.024), sedentary activity (rs = 0.333, p < 0.001), and BMI-for-age z-score. In the multivariable analysis, sedentary activity (ß = 0.291; 95% CI: 0.047–0.173; p = 0.001) and diet quality (ß = -0.178; 95% CI: -0.032 to -0.001; p = 0.033) remained significant independent predictors of BMI-for-age z-score after adjustment for potential confounders, whereas FAFH frequency was no longer significantly associated with BMI-for-age z-score (ß = 0.118; 95% CI: -0.015 to 0.087; p = 0.164). The model explained 22.0% of the variation in BMI-for-age z-scores (R² = 0.220). These findings indicate that sedentary behavior and diet quality are stronger predictors of adolescent obesity risk than FAFH frequency. Therefore, obesity prevention should focus on reducing sedentary behavior and improving diet quality.
