      Abstract

Shallot waste is an agroindustrial by-product with potential as ruminant feed due to its remaining nutritional content. However, its high lignocellulosic content limits digestibility. This study aimed to determine the optimal growth phase of the ligninolytic bacterium OBF412, evaluate the use of condensate water as a fermentation medium, and compare the effectiveness of OBF412 and EM4 in accelerating the biodegradation of shallot waste. The research consisted of raw material characterization, determination of the OBF412 growth curve, and fermentation using cultures at the exponential phase (4.5 h) and early stationary phase (12 h) with distilled water or condensate water as the moisture source. Fermentation performance was evaluated based on Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF) content and analyzed using Analysis of Variance followed by Tukey's test. The results showed that untreated shallot waste contained an initial ADF content of 35.6080%. Fermentation using OBF412 at the early stationary phase with condensate water produced the lowest ADF content of 22.99%, outperforming treatments using distilled water and EM4. This value met the recommended ADF requirement for ruminant feed (<25%), indicating improved digestibility of the fermented substrate. These findings demonstrate that the combination of early stationary-phase OBF412 culture and condensate water is the most effective treatment for accelerating lignocellulosic biodegradation and improving the quality of shallot waste as a ruminant feed ingredient.
