      Abstract

A stoma is an artificial hole in the stomach to remove feces and urine when the digestive tract cannot function normally. This research aims to find the optimal base plate formulation with microbial cellulose (nata de coco) and alginate, as well as studying the effect of calcium chloride on the alginate cross-linking agent. Microbial cellulose was modified at various concentration levels (6%, 8%, 10%, 12%, and 100% alginate) to produce base plate formulations. This formulation was then tested comprehensively through elasticity tests, tensile tests, swelling ratio tests, and patient trials. The research results showed that the formulation with10% nata de coco and alginate produced a base plate with optimal performance. This formulation has sufficient elasticity and tensile strength, an ideal swelling ratio, and has received a positive response from patients. This research makes a significant contribution to the development of effective stoma base plates and offers an innovative solution to improve the quality of life of stoma patients.
