      Abstract

Diseases closely related to the adult age group include non-communicable diseases. Dietary fiber has health benefits when consumed in sufficient quantities. This study aims to analyze dietary fiber intake in Indonesian’s adult population. The research design was quantitative descriptive used secondary data from the Individual Food Consumption Survey (IFCS) 2014 with a total of 75,579 adults. Results of this study indicate the average fiber intake of the Indonesian adult population was 5.7±1.0g. The level of fiber adequacy in subjects with fewer categories was 98.6%. The highest average fiber intake was in the cereals group (1.2±1.0g). Moreover, fiber intake based on food group, that was other fruits 0.8±4.6g/cap/day; other vegetables 0.8±0.9g/cap/day; spices, condiments, and baverages 0.6±0.3g/cap/day; white roots and tubers 0.6±4.6g/cap/day; legumes, nuts, and seeds 0.6±1.0g/cap/day. The average fiber intake was higher in rural areas, higher in men, higher in subjects with small family sizes, higher in working subjects, and higher in the lowest economic status. Statistical test results showed consumption, fiber intake, and adequacy levels differed significantly (p<0.05) based on regional classification, gender, age, employment status, and economic status. However, fiber intake and adequacy levels did not differ significantly with subjects who had a number of household members.
