dc.description.abstractThe aim of this research is to design and construct an instrument to measure beach slope BS-Meter with accelerometer sensor. There were five stages in the design of this instrument, namely: casing design, electronic design, software design, laboratory tests and field trials. The casing is made of aluminum and 1-meter supporting board to make the instrument simple and easy to use. It is assumed, therefore, that within 1-meter there are no changes of the beach slope. An electronic system was built using the Arduino Mega as a microcontroller; while accelerometer sensor and GPS PMB-688 were used to obtain data slope and position, respectively. The data obtained is displayed on the Liquid Cristal Display (LCD) and stored on the SD Card. Laboratory test between BS-Meter and arc angle showed the different between -0.43 up to 0.96 degrees with a value of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) 0.41. Thus BS-Meters have good accuracy. The Statistics Analysis of the t-test at a 95 percent with confidence interval = 0.05, showed that the value of the angle on the arc angle was not significantly different from the value of BS-Meter. Field test was also performed to compare the results of measuring BS-Meter with a Water pass. The results of field measurements of BS-Meter showed that the Palabuhanratu beach slope ranging from 2.16 to 8.32 degrees, while measurements using waterpass ranging from 2.42 to 11.10 degrees. Error or difference value of measurements between the BS-meter and Water pass is ranging from 0.13 to 3.00 degrees. The determination coefficient calculation (R2) between BS-meter and Water pass ranged from 0.97 to 0.99. Therefore, the BSMeter functions correctly and accurately.en
