      Abstract
The objectives of this research were to determine the effect of solvent concentration and cooking time to yield, kappa number, and delignification selictivity, to determine the best condition based on kappa number and delignification selectivity, to determine the effect of pineapple leaf fiber and HVS pulp composition to physical and mechanical properties, and to determine the best composition based on physical and mechanical properties. In this research, the solvent used in the pulping are NaOH and CaO with four concentration level (10%, 15%, 20%, dan 25%) and two cooking time level (1 hour dan 2 hour). The result of Anova showed concentration factor significantly affect to chemical properties of pulp. The pulp yield, kappa number, and delignification selectivity obtained from NaOH consecutively, i.e 63,26 – 73,14%; 13,243 – 21,982; and 34,072 – 57,230 while the pulp yield, kappa number, and delignification selectivity obtained from CaO consecutively, i.e 75,22 – 88,88%; 18,123 – 20,902; and 35,801 – 41,378. The research result, the best of kappa number and delignification selectivity obtained from NaOH 20% cooking time 1 hour and CaO 10% cooking time 1 hour. Pulp that has been obtained is then combined with HVS pulp in 100:0, 75:25, and 50:50. Grammage, tensile index, and tear index from NaOH paper consecutively, i.e 90,995 – 113,4 g/m2; 1,899 – 4,172 Nm/g; and 1,079 x 10-3 – 1,941 x 10-3 Nm2/g while grammage, tensile index, and tear index from CaO paper consecutively, i.e 55,64 – 64,4 g/m2; 0,785 – 2,254 Nm/g; dan 1,077 x 10-3 – 1,744 x 10-3 Nm2/g. Paper with 100% pineapple leaf fiber from NaOH and paper with 50% pineapple leaf fiber from CaO had better mechanical properties than other combination.
