| dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to estimate chlorophyll-a concentration from National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) Preparatory Project (NPP) satellite images in south Java sea, then compare it with Aqua-MODIS satellite. Visible/Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) sensor on NPP has the same performance as MODIS sensor with better spatial resolution. This study uses daily imagery of September 2012 - August 2013. Algorithm Ocean Color 3-band ratio (OC3) used for the prediction of chlorophyll-a concentration. The results showed that the VIIRS sensor can be used to estimate chlorophyll-a concentration as well as MODIS sensor. Chlorophyll-a concentrations showed variation of spatial and temporal in south Java sea. In general, chlorophyll-a concentration was higher on East Season compared to West Season, but the highest occurs in Transitional II Season. The highest concentration of chlorophyll-a was 0.233 mg/m3 and the lowest was 0.098 mg/m3. Chlorophyll-a concentration prediction of MODIS is higher than VIIRS. | en |
