Leather tanning wastewater contains high concentration of organic compound and heavy metals and has a potential to pollute the environment and causing the health problems. The liquid waste of leather tanning contains chrome in a high concentration, because of the tanning materials that used in the process. It is needed to find out an appropiate methods to reduce the problems according to the wastewater characteristics. In this research, electrocoagulation using aluminium electrodes and hydroxide precipitation methods using calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) were evaluated experimentally to remove pollutant parameter such as COD, TSS, total chrome, turbidity, and color. Results showed that the highest removal of pollutant using hydroxide precipitation method is obtained at dose of 8 g/l at pH 8.445 and could reduce the COD parameter of 72.18%, total chrome of 99.98%, TSS of 98.64%, turbidity of 98.90% and color of 99.43%. Using electrocoagulation method could reduce COD from 5621 mg/l to 1070 mg/l (80%), total chrome from 288.375 mg/l to 132.25 mg/l (53%), TSS from 257 mg/l to 31 mg/l (87.93%), turbidity from 406 mg/l to 139 mg/l (65.93% ), and color from 1978.5 PtCo to 636 PtCo (68.10%). This result is obtained by combination of 24 volt and contact time 120 minutes, more higher voltage and contact time given, more better quality of wastewater effluent is generated.en
