      Abstract
Protein requirement for growth period of New Zealand White (NZW) cross breed in tropic climate condition was studied. Twelve male and female rabbits on growth period were given randomly to one of three diet treatments a.e. P1: diet containing 12% crude protein; P2: diet containing 14% crude protein; P3: diet containing 16% crude protein. Data of feed intake, daily gain and feed convertion ratio from a factorial design were analysed of variance, and if there were significant treatment, the result were tested by contras orthogonal and Duncan test. Parameters of water consumption and rate of estrus were explained by descriptive analyses. There are interaction between sex and crude protein level for feed consumption which the highest consumption were in female rabbit which fed contain 14% and 16% crude protein level. Rabbit which fed containing 16% of crude protein level also have highest in daily gain. The highest feed conversion rate (P<0.05) were in rabbit which fed contain 14% crude protein level. The best estrus rate were in female rabbit which fed containing 16% of crude protein level. It is concluded that growing period rabbits need 16% crude protein in their diet.
