Low quality and quantity of local chicken egg in Indonesia are mainly due to the poor breeding management. Hen age is one of considered factor of breeding and hatchery management. Until now the embryo development, hatchability, and chick viability of local chicken such as Arab chicken from different age is still questionable, although it has been proven on broilers. This research was conducted at Laboratory of Poultry Hatching, Departement of Animal Science Production and Technology, Animal Science Faculty, Bogor Agricultural University from May till June 2012. The Complete Randomized design with 135 fertile eggs from three different age of hens (36, 42, and 54 weeks) used in this study. Exterior quality of fertile eggs, embryo development, hacthability, and chick viability were observed in this study. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and then continued by Tuckey analysis. Data of shell cleanness, air egg shell quality, extraembrionic membrane development, hatchability, and viability were analyzed by descriptive method. The data showed that egg weigth, egg index, and embryo weight, beak length, head perimeter of 7th incubation time and embryo weight, neck length, and leg length of 14th incubation time were different (P<0.05). Incressing of hen age could effect the decressing embrio capability to absorb nutrition. The temperature of incubator also effected on metabolism rapidity of embrio. The optimum hen age of to produce good embryo development, hatchability, and viability of Arab Day Old Chick is 36 weeks.en
