dc.description.abstractStocking density in one of important environmental factor which is needed to be considered in generating good production and carcass quality of Japanese quail (Coturnix-coturnix japonica). This study aimed to determine the most optimal stocking density in breeding farm to produce good quail carcass and investigate the effect of various stocking density on the colour and the aroma of meat quail. Sixty female and 45 male of Japanese quails were used in this study. The optimum male ratio between female Japanese quail was estabilished by 1:2. The quails were kept in cages with a stocking density of 12 birds, 15 birds, and 18 birds on 62 x 50 x 26 cm cages and each level of treatment consisted of 3 replications. Feed was given 20 g/ quail per day. Water was provided ad libitum. All traits of carcass characteristics were not different, but there were differences (P<0.05) between colour of male and female meat quail. The quails were kept in cages with a stocking density of 18 birds was the most optimum condition to produce good carcass quail.en
