Abstract
Genetic ability improvement effort of dairy cattle’s milk production can be done by selection of the cow. Friesian Holstein is the most popular dairy cow to be used. Inheritance ability and estimation of production traits can be evaluated according to the milk yield record. The objectives of this research were to estimated the genetic ability of the dairy cow in BBPTU-SP Baturraden by using two methods and to test rank of genetic superiority. Daily milk production collected 537 records of 213 dairy cows. Data collected from 2006 to 2011 which originated from BBPTU-SP Baturraden, Purwokerto. The daily milk production was rearranged into milk yield per lactation. The real milk yield was standardized to 305 days and mature equivalent based on DHIA-USDA’s correction factors. Repeatibility estimation was done by one way classification with unequal numbers of measurements per individual (unbalanced design). Meanwhile heritability estimation was done by using anysis of variance the interclass correlation between paternal halfsib. The methods were used to estimated the genetic ability, namely Most Probable Producing Ability (MPPA) and Predicted Breeding Value (PBV). Repeatibility and heritability value of milk production are recorded as 0.84±0.02 and 0,40±0,36. Based on the evaluation on 213 heads of HF cows, it was obtained that the average value of MPPA was 5,443±895 kg (3151-7701 kg) and that for PBV was 5,462±425 kg (4375-6533 kg). The best cow was identified for the ID 125 having the MPPA value by 7,701 kg and the PBV value by 6,533 kg.
