Lactoferrin (LTF) is a gene controlling milk protein component in which having the characteristic as antimicrobial. LTF contained in the milk has function to prevent diarhea, whereas the function of LTF for the cows is to prevent mastitis in the udder. By looking at the role of the LTF gene, an attempt of improving LTF component in the milk is necessary through the selection process conducted at the DNA level. This study was aimed to identify the polymorphism of the LTF EcoRI gene in Holstein-Friesian (HF) cattle. The LTF EcoRI gene polymorphism was identified with Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restricsion Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method using EcoRI enzyme. Genotyping was perfomed in 89 HF cattle from Balai Inseminasi Buatan (BIB) Lembang (17 heads), Balai Besar Inseminasi Buatan (BBIB) Singosari (32 heads) and Balai Embrio Ternak (BET) Cipelang (40 heads). Genotyping was also conducted in four breeds of beef cattle as a comparison for Limosin (14 heads), Angus (5 heads), Simental (13 heads) and Brahman (5 heads) from BET Cipelang.en
