Calpastatin is the spesific inhibitor of μ- and m-calpain. Calpastatin activity is related with the rate of postmortem proteolysis and tenderness. Increase in calpastatin activity has the effect of increasing muscle mass (hyperthropy) and decrease in meat tenderness. Calpastatin can be used as an indicator for the selection of livestock that have a high carcass quality. Purpose of this research is to find out the relationship between gene genotype of calpastatin with the growth of carcass and non carcass component of male thin tale sheep. Experimental design used is the Tukey test with two genotypes (MM and MN). Result showed that genotype differences in calpastatin gene was significantly different to slaughter weight, empty body weight, carcass weight, percentage of carcass and non carcass weight. Component carcass and non carcass weight was not affect also by the research. This research also did not affect the commercial cut of carcass. In addition, this research did not affect the physical composition of commercial cut, except for weight of meat on the shank and breast cut (P<0,05).en
