Frugal behaviour is important to examine among young adults due to their high exposure to social influence and the complexity of financial decision-making during emerging adulthood. This study aimed to analyze the relationships between respondents’ characteristics and peer influence, religiosity, financial self-efficacy, and frugal behaviour, as well as the direct and indirect effects among these variables among young adults in the Jabodetabek area. A cross-sectional study design with a survey method was employed involving 250 respondents aged 18–25 years selected through voluntary sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, correlation tests, and Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM- PLS). The results showed that financial self-efficacy had a significant positive effect on frugal behaviour, whereas peer influence and religiosity had no direct effect on frugal behaviour. Peer influence and religiosity had significant positive effects on financial self-efficacy, which mediated their effects on frugal behaviour. Thus, financial self-efficacy plays an important role in shaping frugal behaviour among young adults.
