YASMINA MARWAH F.M.

Female university students entering young adulthood are at the intimacy versus isolation stage, which demands the ability to build interpersonal relationships, particularly with significant others. However, data indicate limited social skills among young Indonesian women. This study analyzed the role of loneliness and parasocial relationship (PSR) as a mediator of the effects of father-child attachment on social skills among Indonesian female university students. The study involved 297 female university students aged 18–22 selected through voluntary sampling. Data were analyzed using correlation, regression, and mediation analysis with the Hayes PROCESS Macro Model 6 (5,000 bootstrap samples). Results showed that the majority of female university students had low social skills (61.3%). The results also found that loneliness was the strongest predictor (ß = -0,467; p < .001) of social skills. PSR had no significant effect and did not prove to mediate either model. These findings imply the need for interventions focused on reducing loneliness in order to enhance female university students social skills.
