      Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the production performance and profitability of catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) nursery under three water management systems: water exchange (WE), bioremediation (BR), and recirculation (RA), over 42 days of rearing. A completely randomized design with three treatments and five replications was applied in 100-liter aquaria at a stocking density of 20 fish L-1. The RA system yielded significantly higher (P<0.05) growth rates (absolute length growth 0.14 cm day-1, absolute weight growth 0.043 g day-1, specific weight growth 17.24% day-1) and the best feed conversion ratio (0.72), whereas the highest survival rate and productivity were achieved in WE (72.05% and 115 ind L?1 year?¹). Blood glucose was highest in RA (64.00 mg dL?¹), indicating hydrodynamic stress as an additional stressor. All systems were profitable (R/C>1), with WE achieving the best profitability R/C ratio 2.67, payback period 0.37 years, and the lowest production cost at IDR 130.89 fingerling-1. The WE system is the most technically and economically viable option for catfish nursery operations.
