This cross-sectional study aimed to analyze the effects of adolescent and family characteristics, a history of paternal and maternal abusive parenting, and friendship quality on the stress levels of 115 vocational high school students in Bekasi, selected through purposive and convenience sampling. Descriptive analysis revealed that the majority of adolescents had low stress levels, low parental interpersonal rejection, and low to moderate friendship quality. Correlation analysis indicated that female adolescents tended to have higher stress vulnerability and friendship quality compared to males. Simultaneously, all variables accounted for 38.8% of the variance in stress. Partially, a history of maternal abusive parenting had a highly significant positive effect on stress levels, whereas paternal abusive parenting had no significant effect. Conversely, friendship quality, acting as a stress buffer for adolescents, along with maternal age maturity, had a significant negative effect in reducing stress. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of supportive friendship quality as an external coping strategy to protect adolescent well-being from the impacts of abusive parenting.
