Berdasarkan kategori, secara berurutan memposisikan stockmanship, light and air, flooring, locomotion, social interaction. Dairy cattle welfare is considered an important factor influencing animal performance and productivity. This study was conducted to evaluate the level of animal welfare implementation in smallholder dairy farms in the Bogor Regency area based on the Animal Needs Index 35L/2000 protocol. A total of 30 cowsheds were selected as samples using purposive sampling, and data were collected through direct assessment and interviews with farmers. The ANI protocol consisted of five assessment categories, namely locomotion, social interaction, flooring, light and air, and stockmanship. The assessment results showed that stockmanship
achieved the highest score, specifically in the animal health aspect. In contrast, the social interaction category showed the lowest score, particularly in the group structure subcategory. Based on category ranking, the order from highest to lowest score was stockmanship, light and air, flooring, locomotion, and social interaction. Overall, the level of animal welfare implementation in dairy farms at the research location was classified as satisfactory based on the Animal Needs Index protocol.
