High ambient temperatures can induce heat stress in quails, leading to increased excreta moisture content and enhanced microbial activity responsible for the production of harmful gases. The inclusion of phytogenic feed additives, such as senduduk (Melastoma malabathricum L.) leaf meal, has the potential to mitigate these effects. This study aimed to analyze the effect of incorporating senduduk leaf meal into the diet on ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) production, as well as the microbiological characteristics of excreta in laying quails. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used, consisting of four treatments (0%, 2%, 4%, and 6% senduduk leaf meal) with three replications, each containing 10 quails. The observed parameters included NH3 and H2S production, Total Plate Count (TPC), Escherichia coli, and Salmonella sp. The results showed that the inclusion of up to 6% senduduk leaf meal in the diet can serve as an antioxidant and has potential in improving air quality within the housing environment.
