      Abstract

The sex ratio in ornamental cichlid fish is an important factor because males are known to grow faster and have brighter colors than females, making them more economically profitable. One effort to increase the number of male fish is through masculinization. The blue polar cichlid fish was used as a model fish in this study because it is easy to care for, resistant to various environmental conditions, has a high breeding ability, and is often used as a research model in reproductive studies. Alternatives to synthetic hormones for masculinization are natural ingredients such as coconut water, due to its high potassium content. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of coconut water doses as a masculinizing agent for blue polar cichlid fish. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) method, with two controls and three treatments, each with three replications. The MT treatment used 17a-methyltestosterone (MT), the K0 treatment did not use any ingredients, and treatments K25, K35, and K45 used coconut water at doses of 25%, 35%, and 45%, respectively. The male sex ratio in the K0 treatment was 53.33±6.67%, not significantly different from the K25 treatment, but significantly different from the K35, K45, and MT treatments. The K45 treatment showed the highest male sex ratio (85.87±7.38%) and was not significantly different from the MT control (91.11±10.18%), and had a survival rate during treatment of 92.00±0.04% and a survival rate during maintenance of 100%.
