Nilai Hematologi Puyuh Periode Bertelur dengan Pemberian Asap Cair Tempurung Kelapa Grade 2 dalam Air Minum
Abstract
Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) are poultry that produce eggs and meat, and their productivity is influenced by environmental conditions. The ambient temperature in Indonesia tends to be high and exceeds the quail's comfort zone, triggering heat stress and, if not immediately addressed, can trigger oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is detrimental to quail health and productivity. Grade 2 coconut shell liquid smoke contains phenols as natural antioxidants that have the potential to reduce oxidative stress. This study aims to analyze the effect of administering grade 2 liquid smoke through drinking water on the hematological values of quails during the laying period. The study was conducted for 6 weeks using 200 female quails aged 6-12 weeks with a completely randomized design of 5 levels of liquid smoke dosage and 4 replicates. The variables included erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, erythrocyte index, leukocytes, leukocyte differentiation, and H/L ratio, which were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the administration of grade 2 coconut shell liquid smoke was able to improve erythrocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit, erythrocyte index, and leukocyte values within the normal range. Despite the high ambient temperature, the administration of liquid smoke reduced oxidative stress in quails. The conclusion of this study is that grade 2 coconut shell liquid smoke is effective as an antioxidant source at a dose of 0.25 mL/L of drinking water (P1) ACTK, producing normal values for red blood cells, white blood cells, and the lowest H/L ratio.
