      Abstract

Tuban is a district in East Java which has the second largest population of beef cattle after Sumenep Regency, namely 360,473 heads. Wadung Village is located in Jenu subdistrict, Tuban district, East Java. This research analyzes the physiological adaptation ability of beef cows raised in coastal areas based on THI values, heat tolerance, and observation of physiological responses. This research involved nine cows: pregnant heifers, first lactation, and second lactation, each consisting of groups of 3 cows. Data collection was carried out 4 times a day, the data obtained were analyzed descriptively by calculating the mean and standard deviation of the measured parameters. Heat tolerance is calculated using the Benezra coefficient and Rhoad coefficient. The results showed that THI value is still quite far from the ideal category. The heat resistance of second lactation cows based on the Benezra coefficient and Rhoad coefficient were 2,24 and 94,92 respectively. This shows that second lactation cows have better heat resistance than pregnant heifers (2,37; 93,47) and first lactation (2,58; 90,47).
