      Abstract

Intermediate rearing of vannamei shrimp with a recirculation system is an alternative that can be applied to increase production, so that shrimp farming be carried out both in areas near the coast and in the yard. Filter media in the recirculation system greatly affects water quality, cost production, and the success of farming. This research aims to determine the role of the zeolite and bioball combination as a filter in the recirculation system on the production performance of the vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) nursery. The research design used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments consisted of 100% zeolite, 75% zeolite and 25% bioball, 25% zeolite and 75% bioball, and 100% bioball. Shrimp with initial weights of 0.004±0.000 g are kept in an aquarium 60 x 40 x 40 cm with a density of 100 fish aquarium-1 for 28 days and are given commercial (41% protein) feed 4 times a day with a feeding rate of 8,5–9,0%. The best production performance was obtained in the combination of 75% zeolite and 25% bioball (p<0.05) with 86,67±1,53% survival, growth specific weight was 8,88±0,02%, feed conversion ratio was 1,17±0,06, and productivity was 0,66±0,01 kg m-2.
