| dc.description.abstract | The used of plants as herbal to improve the vocalisation of zebra dove are widely applied by aviculturists to their birds; however, until now there are no data about its effect. The objectives of this research were to study the effects of leaf extracts of saga, sambiloto, wild pare and its combination on zebra dove (Geopelia striata) vocalisation. The research was conducted at Prima Bird Farm, Cisarua. The Birds were divided into 5 treatment groups and 5 replications. All birds, received the same amount of basal diet (10g/bird/day) and the treatment groups were divided into control group (Basal diet = A), A + extract saga leaf (B), A + extract sambiloto leaf (C), A + extract wild pare leaf (D), and A + mixture of extracts saga + sambiloto + wild pare (E). The basal diets were consisted of Lampung rice, milet, jewawut and black sticky rice, while the extracts were given about 0.018g/bird/week for 6 weeks. The parameters measured were feed consumption, nutrient consumption, body weight gain, and feed preferences. The doves’ songs were recorded when the age of the birds reached to 6-8 months old, at the end of the experiment, for 6 consecutive days, for 6 hours each day. The songs were analyzed by using Avisoft SASLab Light software for numbers of repertoires, duration, numbers of syllables, tempos, and frequencies. Data were analyzed by using ANCOVA and were followed by Tukey test. The results showed that the birds preferred to consume milet, followed by jewawut, black sticky rice and Lampung rice. However, there were no significant differences on feed consumption and daily weight gain. The extracts significantly increased the numbers of repertoires. The highest frequency of the first syllable increased significantly when the birds consumed the extract saga leaf. In conclusion, the extract saga leaf improved the song’s quality of zebra doves according to the numbers of repertoires and songs frequencies. | id |
