This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of sunflower seeds oil (SFO) addition into lactating sheep’s diet, on rumen fermentability. There were 12 lactating sheep, aged 1-year-old, treated for 10 months experiment. The experiment was arranged with 4 treatment diets i.e. P0 = control (with no addition of SFO), P1 = rations with 2% SFO addition, P2 = rations with 4% SFO addition, P3 = rations with 6% SFO addition. Each treatment was done with 3 replication. The result showed that the addition of sunflower seeds oil produced the population of bacteria ranged from 5.46 x 109 cells ml-1 to 6.74 x 109 cells ml-1 and the population of protozoa ranged from 6.13 x 104 cells ml-1 to 9.87 x 104 cells ml-1. the concentrarion of VFA ranged from 83.94 mM to 98.59 mM and concentration of NH3 ranged from 2.38 mM to 5.47 mM. The energy efficiency was also positively affected, based on the lower amount of methane production. It is concluded that the addition of sunflower seed oil (SFO) to 6% do not affect the rumen fermentability, microbial populations and is able to reduce the production of methane gas.
