dc.description.abstractShrimp waste (SW) contain high percentage of chitin and can be used in ration to lowered down serum cholesterol and triglyseride level of blood. This study was conducted to determine the effect of shrimp wastes as a source of chitin on serum cholesterol and triglyseride levels of ram. This study used 16 head of rams with average weight of 15.375 + 1.234 kg. This study used Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments (P0: 13.5% soybean meal + 0% SW; P1: 9% soybean meal + 10% SW; P2: 4.5% soybean meal + 20% SW dan P3: 0% soybean meal + 30% SW) with 4 replications. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance ( ANOVA) and the significant result was examined with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The study showed that serum cholesterol and triglyseride level decreased significantly (P<0.05) when SW as included in the diets. The highest reduction of serum cholesterol level was observed in the ratio SW level of 20% and triglyseride level was observed in the ratio SW level of 30%. The result showed that SW in ram diets reduced serum cholesterol and triglyseride level.en
dc.description.abstractLimbah udang merupakan limbah dari industri pengolahan udang beku yang terdiri dari campuran kepala, kulit dan ekor serta udang yang rusak atau udang afkir. Limbah udang ini memiliki nilai protein dan serat kasar berupa khitin yang tinggi dimana khitin ini merupakan molekul yang dapat mengikat lemak dan membawanya keluar bersama feses. Dengan adanya pengikatan lemak oleh khitin, diharapkan kolesterol dalam darah akan menurun. Selain itu, penggunaan limbah udang dalam ransum ternak juga dapat dilakukan sebagai sumber protein pengganti bungkil kedelai.IND
