Social Vulnerability of Rural Originated Scavengers in Jakarta.
Abstract
The research was conducted on urban poor, who ara rural originated scavengers in Grogol Selatan, Sub District of Kebayoran Lama, District of Jakarta Selatan, DKI Jakarta. This study has three objectives: 1) to know the life of the urban poor, 2) to measure influence of sosial vulnerability to urban poor’s standard of living, 3) to measure the level of social vulnerability in the urban poor. These three research objectives can be answered by quantitative research methods and supported by qualitative methods. The method is carried out by questionnaire, direct observation, indepth interviews and document serches. Quantitative approach is addressed to 35 respondents. Respondents obtained by incidental sampling. Respondents are urban poor who work as scavengers. Incidental sampling method was conducted in Grogol Selatan. Precisely in Stasiun Kebayoran, Pasar Bata Putih and under of Simprug’s Bridge. The results showed urban poor’s standard of living are very low level. The levels of urban poor’s social vulnerability is very high. In this study proved that kinship (objective), skills (objective), ethnicity (perception), collectivity (the perception of attitude) and collectivity (the perception of the total) have a negative influence on economic conditions. Besides kinship (perception), skills (perception), ethnicity (objective) and collectivity (objective) has a positive effect on economic conditions. In this study also proved that the kinship (objective), skills (objective), ethnicity (perception) and collectivity (the perception of attitude) negatively affect the accessibility of basic needs. Besides kinship (perception), skills (perception), collectivity (objective) and collectivity (the perception of the total) have a positive influence on the accessibility of basic needs. And this study also proves that the kinship (objective), skills (objective), skills (perception), ethnicity (perception) and collectivity (the perception of the total) has a positive effect on participation.
