      Abstract
      Productivity of livestock is influenced by quality and quantity of forage consumed by animals. Paspalum Notatum Fluegge is an annual rhizome grass which propagates through its rhizome. However it produces seed very rare in Indonesia. Therefore planting material used to propagate is rhizome. The problame of rhizome when it is used for planting material is transportation and storage duration. The study was to recognize effect of storage time of different length of rhizome. Storage time was experimentally tested on 0, 1, 2, 3, and 6 days, with length of rhizome were 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10 cm. The observed parameters were length of leaf, number of leaf, number of shoots, number of node before and after planting, and weight of rhizome before and after storage and also after harvest. This experiment was done in factorial complete random experimental design. The result showed that length of rhizome and storage time individually effected (P<0.05) leaf length and leaf number. Leaf dry weight was influenced by storage time but not significantly by rhizome length. There was no interaction effect between rhizome length and storage time on parameters.
       
      Pakan hijauan memiliki peranan terpenting dan porsi terbesar untuk kebutuhan ternak ruminansia, sehingga ketersediaannya harus diperhatikan. Ketersediaan hijauan yang fluktuatif adalah fenomena yang sering terjadi baik di daerah subtropik maupun di daerah tropik. Penyimpanan bahan tanam dengan tujuan untuk perbanyakan hijaun dan distribusi ke wilayah tertentu adalah salah satu alternatif untuk menjaga ketersediaan hijauan, sehingga pada penelitian ini dilakukan uji daya simpan dan panjang rhizome. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh daya simpan rhizome dan panjang rhizome Paspalum notatum Fluegge terhadap produksi awal dan produksi biomassa. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Agrostologi Departemen Ilmu Nutrisi dan Teknologi Pakan, Fakultas Peternakan, Institut Pertanian Bogor. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari sampai maret 2010. Bahan tanam yang digunakan adalah rhizome rumput bahia (Paspalum notatum Fluegge). Pupuk yang digunakan adalah pupuk standar yaitu KCL, SP18, dan pupuk kandang. Jenis tanah yang digunakan sebagai media tanam adalah tanah latosol.
