The objective of this study is to see observe and analyze the impact of tourism development on the sustainability of Subak Embukan as well as its agriculture production. Subak is a Balinese indigenous irrigation management institution. The study was conducted at the Subak Embukan located at Ababi Village, Abang sub-Regency, Karangasem Regency. The qualitative data were explored through in-depth interviews and field observations. Meanwhile a survey method to 30 farmers of the Subak Embukan‟s member was applied for gathering quantitative figures. The impacts were measure through with and without (tourism) approach. The result shows that tourism that grew on Ababi Village of Bali has brought adverse impacts to Subak Embukan in terms of its paddy fields areas. In the last four years, through the permission of customary community elders, 12 out of 87 hectares of Subak Embukan land are converted for tourism facilities and infrastructure. So far, at a certain point, the decline of Subak’s paddy lands seems did not significantly influence the amount of member, institutional configuration and irrigation management capacity of the Subak. However, if the land conversion continues to grow, the sustainability of the Subak Embukan will be threatened in the future.en
