Y SAGARI.
Y SAGARI. The Effect of Compartment-Type Transport Container Modification on the Quality of Seaweed Caulerpa racemosa Seedlings during 5 Days of Transportation. Supervised by EDDY SUPRIYONO and KUKUH NIRMALA. The success of Caulerpa racemosa aquaculture heavily relies on the quality of seedlings distributed across regions, where temperature and humidity fluctuations inside the transport containers serve as major limiting factors triggering thallus damage. To mitigate stress levels during distribution and maintain seedling viability, optimizing the engineering of cooling-system packaging containers is essential. This study analyzed the effect of the number of circulation holes (2, 4, and 6 holes) in a compartment-type container on C. racemosa seedling quality, using a Completely Randomized Design with three treatments and three replications. Parameters included temperature fluctuation, visual quality, biomass shrinkage during 5 days of transport, and Specific Growth Rate (SGR) during 30 days of rearing. The 2-hole treatment (P1) yielded the best quality, indicated by the lowest biomass shrinkage (24.28%), smooth and mucus-free thalli, and the highest SGR (2.53±0.92%/day). Conversely, the 4-hole treatment (P2) showed the poorest results with the highest shrinkage (31.64%), mucus formation on the thalli, and a negative SGR (-1.44±0.24%/day), while the 6-hole treatment (P3) demonstrated intermediate results (0.35±1.37%/day). Statistical analysis revealed that the number of holes had no significant effect on biomass shrinkage (P>0.05) but significantly affected SGR (P<0.05). The superiority of P1 was consistently supported by the best-preserved physical condition, demonstrating that utilizing fewer circulation holes is more effective in minimizing thallus moisture loss compared to other treatments.
