      Abstract

Indonesia has demonstrated its commitment to addressing climate change by ratifying the Paris Agreement. The transportation sector has become a major concern due to its substantial energy consumption and continuously increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Divergent findings across previous studies, along with the evolving implementation of emission-reduction policies, highlight the need for further investigation using more recent data. This study aims to (1) examine the causal relationship among economic growth, energy consumption, and GHG emissions in Indonesia's transportation sector; and (2) benchmark national policies for transportation sector decarbonization in Indonesia. The analytical methods employed include the VAR, the Granger causality test, and content analysis. The results indicate a unidirectional causal relationship from economic growth to GHG emissions. Furthermore, the benchmarking analysis reveals that successful transportation emission reduction requires integrating energy, transportation, and spatial planning policies to support the transition toward a sustainable mobility system.
