      Abstract

Pangasius (Pangasius sp.) is a leading aquaculture commodity; however, feed costs, which reach 60–70% of total operational costs, remain a major challenge in its culture. Farmers generally use either commercial feed, which is expensive and price-volatile, or combined feed, which is cheaper and can reduce operational costs. This study aims to analyze the profitability and characteristics of pangasius growout farmers using combined and commercial feed in Pemayung Subdistrict, Batang Hari Regency, Jambi, over a period of one month. This research is nonexperimental in nature, conducted as a case study through a survey. Sample (respondent) determination used the purposive sampling method. Three key parameters productivity, stocking density, and feed conversion ratio were used to facilitate outlier identification. The method used for outlier detection was mean ± 2SD for normally distributed data, while the Interquartile Range (IQR) method was used for non-normally distributed data. Pangasius production results did not differ significantly between feed types, but the FCR differed significantly, with the best value obtained using commercial feed at 1.56. Nevertheless, the business analysis showed that the best R/C ratio was obtained using combined feed, at 1.20, with a payback period of 8.01 years. The study concludes that the best profitability was achieved using combined feed, with a profit of IDR 27,452/year/m².
