      Abstract

Greenhouse-based hydroponic melon farming is a modern cultivation system that improves crop quality and land-use efficiency but requires intensive capital, technology, and management. This study aimed to analyze farm performance and identify indications of economies of scale based on farm size in Trenggalek Regency. A census of 30 hydroponic melon farmers was conducted, with farms classified into small, medium, and large scales according to the number of planting holes. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, cost structure analysis, farm income analysis, and the Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney tests. The results showed that all farm scales were economically efficient, with R/C ratio values greater than one. Most performance indicators differed significantly across farm sizes, particularly between small-scale farms and medium- and large-scale farms. Indications of economies of scale were reflected in lower production costs per standardized capacity and higher labor productivity, returns to labor, and returns to capital.
