      Abstract

This study evaluated the effects of ferulic acid supplementation in diets containing jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis) meal on the growth performance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). A completely randomized factorial design was used with four treatments and four replicates: K (diet without ferulic acid or jack bean meal supplementation), P1 (diet supplemented with 400 mg kg-1 ferulic acid), P2 (diet containing 5% jack bean meal + 400 mg kg-1 ferulic acid), and P3 (diet containing 5% jack bean meal). A total of 12 Nile tilapia were kept in aquaria measuring 50 cm × 50 cm × 40 cm for 60 days and fed 3 times a day at satiation. The results showed that the best growth performance was obtained in P1. Meanwhile, P2 exhibited improved growth performance compared with P3. Specific growth rate and feed intake in P2 were significantly different (P<0.05) from those of the other treatments. Feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio in P3 were not significantly different (P>0.05) from those in K and P1. Survival rate in K and P1 was not significantly different (P>0.05) from that in P2.
