Indonesia is the world’s second-largest pepper exporter, but its export performance has declined over the past decade. This study aims to analyze the competitiveness, market position, and determinants of Indonesia’s pepper exports to its ten major destination countries for the period 2015–2024 using the RCA, EPD, and gravity model methods. The results show that Indonesia possesses a strong comparative advantage, but this advantage has not been fully reflected in an increase in market share. The gravity model indicates that the RCA value, GDP, and population of destination countries have a significant positive effect on Indonesia’s pepper exports, while Indonesia’s GDP, exchange rate, and non-tariff barriers have a significant negative effect. These findings suggest that the performance of Indonesia’s pepper exports is influenced not only by comparative advantage but also by the economic characteristics of destination countries and market position. Therefore, export development policies need to set market priorities based on a combination of destination countries’ economic characteristics, comparative advantage, and market position, as well as strengthen compliance with destination countries’ regulations.
