      Abstract

Vibriosis caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus is one of the major constraints in the culture of whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) due to its substantial economic impact. Oral administration of an inactivated vaccine through feed is a promising strategy to enhance shrimp resistance against V. parahaemolyticus infection. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an inactivated V. parahaemolyticus vaccine administered through feed on the immune response and survival of whiteleg shrimp following a bacterial challenge. The treatments consisted of NC (negative control), PC (positive control), VC4 (104 CFU mL?¹), VC6 (106 CFU mL?¹), and VC8 (108 CFU mL?¹). The results showed that oral vaccination significantly enhanced the immune response of shrimp compared with the control following the challenge. The VC8 treatment produced the best performance, with a survival rate of 90.00 ± 5.00% and a relative percent survival (RPS) of 88.88 ± 1.00%. These findings indicate that the inactivated V. parahaemolyticus vaccine, particularly at a dose of 108 CFU mL?¹, has the potential to serve as an effective immunoprophylactic strategy for improving the resistance of whiteleg shrimp against V. parahaemolyticus infection.
