dc.description.abstractLimbah pangan menjadi permasalahan lingkungan yang memerlukan pengelolaan berkelanjutan. Salah satu pemanfaatannya dilakukan melalui biokonversi menggunakan larva Black Soldier Fly (BSF) yang menghasilkan minyak berpotensi sebagai bahan baku lilin aromaterapi. Penelitian ini bertujuan memformulasi lilin aromaterapi berbasis minyak BSF, mengevaluasi kinerjanya, dan menentukan formulasi terbaik. Enam formulasi lilin (P0–P5) dibuat menggunakan variasi komposisi minyak BSF, beeswax, dan asam stearat. Kinerja lilin diuji berdasarkan durasi pembakaran dan intensitas cahaya, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan metode skoring. Minyak BSF memiliki bilangan iodin 10,42 g I2/100 g, bilangan peroksida 5,67 meq/kg, bilangan asam 2,31 mg NaOH/g, asam lemak bebas 1,16%, dan densitas 0,94 g/mL. Durasi pembakaran tertinggi diperoleh pada P1 sebesar 7,9 jam, sedangkan intensitas cahaya tertinggi pada P0 sebesar 141,3 lux pada jarak 5 cm. Berdasarkan hasil skoring, P0 dan P1 ditetapkan sebagai formulasi terbaik. Kesimpulannya, Minyak BSF berpotensi sebagai bahan baku lilin aromaterapi yang ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan.
dc.description.abstractFood waste is an environmental issue that requires sustainable management. One potential utilization method is bioconversion using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, which produces oil that can be used as a raw material for aromatherapy candles. This study aimed to formulate BSF oil-based aromatherapy candles, evaluate their performance, and determine the best formulation. Six candle formulations (P0–P5) were prepared using different proportions of BSF oil, beeswax, and stearic acid. Candle performance was evaluated based on burning duration and light intensity, followed by scoring analysis. BSF oil had an iodine value of 10.42 g I2/100 g, peroxide value of 5.67 meq/kg, acid value of 2.31 mg NaOH/g, free fatty acid content of 1.16%, and density of 0.94 g/mL. The longest burning duration was obtained in P1 (7.9 h), while the highest light intensity was recorded in P0 (141.3 lux at 5 cm). Based on the scoring results, P0 and P1 were identified as the best formulations. BSF oil shows potential as an environmentally friendly and sustainable raw material for aromatherapy candles.
