      Abstract

Muara Gembong waters experience anthropogenic pressure caused by increasing population and various activities such as settlements, industry, and agriculture. Macrozoobenthos is used as an indicator because it is sensitive to environmental changes. This study aims to analyze the structure of the macrozoobenthos community and its relationship with environmental parameters to assess the condition and health of the Muara Gembong Waters. Sampling was carried out from July to December 2025 from eight different stations using van veen grab and analyzed in the laboratory to identify species composition, density, diversity index, evenness index, dominance index, and similarity index, and PCA. The environmental parameters tested were substrate type and air quality. The results showed that the composition of macrozoobenthos consisted of 75 genera from nine classes. The highest composition was Polychaeta with the most frequently found genus Nereis sp. The highest density was found at Station 5 (1161 ind/m2) and the lowest at Station 7 (87 ind/m2). Based on the observation time, the condition was relatively stable with high uniformity and low dominance. Based on location, station 6 experienced stress with low diversity and uniformity and high dominance, while the other stations were relatively stable. Overall, the health of the waters is relatively stable, though there are pressures in certain areas.
