      Karakteristik Pertumbuhan, Produksi dan Kandungan Mineral Rumput Gajah Varietas Berbeda Sebagai Hijauan Pakan Ternak

      Abstract
      Rumput gajah (Pennisetum purpureum) merupakan hijauan pakan utama yang banyak dibudidayakan di daerah tropis karena pertumbuhannya yang cepat dan produksi biomassa yang tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis karakteristik pertumbuhan, produksi biomassa, dan komposisi mineral dari tiga kultivar unggul, yaitu Taiwan, Gama Umami, dan Pakchong-2. Penelitian disusun menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan enam ulangan menggunakan sistem planter bag di Laboratorium Lapang Agrostologi, Fakultas Peternakan, IPB University. Karakteristik agro-morfologi yang diamati meliputi tinggi tanaman, jumlah anakan, dan morfologi daun, serta produksi biomassa segar dan kering, nilai brix, dan kandungan mineral makro (Ca, P, K, dan Mg). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Pakchong-2 memiliki performa terbaik secara keseluruhan, ditandai dengan tinggi tanaman, dimensi daun, jumlah daun total, produksi biomassa, dan konsentrasi mineral makro tertinggi. Sebaliknya, Gama Umami menghasilkan jumlah anakan dan proporsi daun tertinggi, tetapi memiliki kandungan bahan kering terendah, sedangkan Taiwan menunjukkan pertumbuhan yang berada pada tingkat menengah dengan persentase bahan kering tertinggi. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Pakchong-2 merupakan kultivar yang paling potensial untuk menghasilkan produktivitas biomassa dan kualitas nutrisi yang optimal di antara varietas yang dievaluasi.
       
      Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) is a primary forage cultivated in tropical regions due to its rapid growth and high biomass yields. This research have aim to analyse the growth characteristics, biomass production, and mineral composition of three prominent cultivars: Taiwan, Gama Umami, and Pakchong-2. The research was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six replications using a planter bag system at the Agrostology Field Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Science, IPB University. Agro-morphological traits (plant height, tiller number, and leaf morphology), fresh and dry biomass production, Brix values, and macromineral content (Ca, P, K, and Mg) were quantified. The results revealed that Pakchong-2 had superior overall performance, yielding the highest plant height, leaf dimensions, total leaf count, biomass production, and macromineral concentrations. In contrast, Gama Umami produced the highest tiller density and leaf proportion but recorded the lowest dry matter content, while Taiwan showed intermediate growth with the highest dry matter percentage. It concluded that Pakchong-2 has the most promising cultivar for optimal biomass productivity and nutritional quality among the evaluated varieties.
