      Abstract

Thalassiosira sp. is a diatom microalga with high potential as a natural feed in aquaculture. However, its growth in mixotrophic culture systems remains suboptimal. One strategy to enhance the growth of Thalassiosira is the application of mixotrophic cultivation through the utilization of organic carbon as an additional energy source. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of sucrose supplementation as a carbon source to improve the growth and productivity of Thalassiosira sp. under mixotrophic conditions. A completely randomized design was used with four treatments: control (without sucrose), S0.25 (0.25 g/L), S0.50 (0.5 g/L), and S1.00 (1 g/L), each with four replications. Walne medium was used as the culture medium. The results showed that the highest cell density, specific growth rate, biomass, and total Vibrio count were obtained in the 1 g/L treatment compared to the other treatments.
