      Abstract

Economic development inequality across regions is a critical issue that requires serious attention, particularly in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), which has the highest Gini index in Indonesia at 0.449. This study employs the Williamson Index to measure the level of economic disparity in DIY and the Zakatnomics Development Index (IPZN) to evaluate the performance of the Islamic economic system in addressing inequality. With the Williamson Index, the results of the study showed a severe level of inequality in DIY, with a score of 0.515. The implementation of the Zakatnomics concept, as measured by the IPZN, yields an index score of 0.65, demonstrating a positive contribution to reducing inequality. However, further analysis of Zakatnomics dimensions reveals that several indicators still require improvement to enhance its impact. These findings highlight that Zakatnomics has significant potential in reducing economic inequality, but its effectiveness depends on comprehensive policy support and strong synergy between the government, zakat institutions, and society.
