      Rancang Bangun Alat Pirolisis Tipe Kiln untuk Pembuatan Biochar dan Pemanfaatan Thermalnya untuk Proses Evaporasi Air

      Abstract
      Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan menguji alat pirolisis tipe kiln berbasis self-pirolisis yang mampu mengonversi limbah tandan kosong kelapa sawit (TKKS) menjadi biochar, serta mengevaluasi potensi pemanfaatan energi termal dari proses tersebut. Sistem dilengkapi dengan variasi coil heat exchanger (HE) yang digunakan untuk menangkap energi panas dari ruang pirolisis dan mentransfernya ke fluida air. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa reaktor mampu menghasilkan biochar dengan rendemen tertinggi sebesar 28% pada variasi dengan coil HE, serta 25% pada variasi tanpa coil. Analisis termal mengungkapkan bahwa sistem menghasilkan laju energi panas berguna (????) sebesar 2,04–3,49 kW dan potensi panas buang yang dimanfaatkan sebesar 1,63–4,31 kW. Efisiensi reaktor tertinggi tercapai pada variasi dengan coil HE berdebit rendah (0,4–0,6 LPM) yang mampu menghasilkan uap air secara langsung. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa sistem kiln yang dikembangkan memiliki potensi besar untuk digunakan sebagai teknologi pemanfaatan panas sisa melalui konsep regenerasi termal.
       
      This research aimed to design and evaluate a self-pyrolysis-based kiln-type pyrolysis system capable of converting empty fruit bunch (EFB) waste from oil palm into biochar, while also assessing the potential for reusing residual thermal energy generated during the process. The system was equipped with a variation of coil-type heat exchangers (HE) designed to capture heat from the pyrolysis chamber and transfer it to water as the working fluid. Experimental results showed that the system was able to produce biochar with a maximum yield of 28% when using the HE, compared to 25% without the HE. Thermal analysis revealed that the useful thermal energy rate (????) ranged from 2.04 to 3.49 kW, while the recoverable thermal energy through the regeneration process reached 1.63–4.31 kW. The highest reactor efficiency was observed under low HE flowrates (0.4–0.6 LPM), which also demonstrated direct water evaporation. These findings suggested that the developed kiln system had significant potential for residual heat utilization through the thermal regeneration concept.
