      Abstract

The comet goldfish (Carassius auratus) is a popular ornamental freshwater fish cultivated in Indonesia. Its vibrant coloration is highly influenced by dietary carotenoids, particularly astaxanthin. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of astaxanthin supplementation, in the form powder of Lucanthin Pink, on the growth performance and color quality of comet goldfish. The experiment employed a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatment levels and four replicates: 0, 10, 20, and 30 mg of astaxanthin per kg of feed. Fish were reared for 60 days at a density of 15 individuals per aquarium and fed to satiation three times daily. Results showed that astaxanthin supplementation had no significant effect on specific growth rate, individual body weight, or feed conversion ratio. However, a significant decrease in survival rate was observed at the 30 mg/kg treatment, which consequently reduced harvest biomass and protein efficiency ratio. Color quality improved with increasing astaxanthin levels up to 20 mg/kg, but declined at 30 mg/kg. In conclusion, 20 mg/kg astaxanthin supplementation was the optimal dose for enhancing coloration without adversely affecting growth or survival.
