      Abstract

Pacific white shrimp farming often faces disease outbreaks that lead to significant losses. One technology used to address this issue is the biofloc system, which improves growth performance, survival rate (SR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), water quality, inhibits pathogen activity, and enhances immune response. This study aimed to analyze the effects of the biofloc system on growth performance and health status of high-density vannamei shrimp at an intermediate scale. Post-larvae (PL) 10 shrimp were reared in biofloc and control systems for 56 days at a stocking density of 500 shrimp m-3 in Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) measuring 1.2 × 1.0 × 1.15 m³ (1000 L). A completely randomized design (CRD) was used with two treatments: control (C) and biofloc (BF) and three replicates. Parameters measured included SR, daily growth rate (DGR), specific growth rate (SGR), weight gain (?W), biomass gain (?B), FCR, bacterial abundance, total hemocyte count (THC), respiratory burst (RB), phenoloxidase (PO), water quality, and floc volume. Results showed that the biofloc (BF) treatment was superior, with higher SR (81.24±0.02%), better FCR (1.67±0.08), lower Vibrio sp. and V. parahaemolyticus abundance, and enhanced immune responses.
