      Abstract

Iron (Fe) is a micromineral that plays a role in oxygen transportation and cellular respiration through oxidation-reduction and electron-transfer activities. Fe intake needs to be added through feed because the amount of water-soluble Fe that can be absorbed by the gill membrane and intestinal mucosa of fish is limited. Iron (Fe) added to feed is divided into two, namely organic iron (FeAA) amino acid chelate and inorganic iron (FeSO4) ferrous sulfate. This literature study aims to validate and analyze the best amount of iron (Fe) dosage added to feed to improve the growth performance of tilapia (Oreochromis sp.). Literature sources were collected by downloading accredited national journals, international journals, theses, and dissertations. The forms of Fe supplementation reviewed in this literature study are FeSO4. 7H2O, FeC6H5O7. H2O and Fe2O3. The result of this literature study is that the addition of Fe can improve growth performance and provide an optimum FCR value in tilapia at a dose of 50-150 mg kg-1.
