      Abstract
      Lidah buaya (Aloe vera L.) merupakan komoditas utama di Kota Pontianak, Kalimantan Barat. Banyak pengusaha yang menggunakan lidah buaya sebagai bahan baku. Ada beberapa proses yang harus dilakukan sebelum mendapatkan daging lidah buaya, satu di antaranya adalah pengupasan. Proses pengupasan kulit daun lidah buaya masih dilakukan secara manual. Pengupasan yang dilakukan secara manual memiliki kapasitas yang kecil dan membutuhkan banyak tenaga kerja. Tujuan dari penelitian untuk merancang mesin pengupas kulit daun lidah buaya yang dapat memisahkan kulit dan daging dalam sekali proses. Komponen mesin terdiri dari pengupas pertama, pengupas kedua, saluran keluar, dan rangka. Daun lidah buaya melalui dua proses pengupasan. Kemudian kulit dan daging yang sudah terpisah akan memasuki salurannya masing-masing. Pengupasan menggunakan motor listrik untuk memutar roller pada pengupasan kedua agar daun lidah buaya masuk ke mesin secara otomatis. Hasil pengupasan terbagi menjadi 5 bagian, yaitu dua buah kulit samping, kulit bagian atas, kulit bagian bawah, dan daging lidah buaya. Namun hasil pengupasan masih belum optimal, masih banyak daging lidah buaya yang menempel pada kulitnya. Selain itu, slip yang terjadi pada roller pengupas masih besar.
       
      Aloe vera (Aloe vera L.) is a main commodity in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan. Many entrepreneurs use the aloe vera leaf as the main raw material. Several processes must be done before using the gel from aloe vera, one of which is peeling. The peeling process of aloe vera leaves is still done manually. Manual peeling has a low capacity and requires a lot of labour. This study was aimed to design a peeling machine for aloe vera leaf that can separate the skin and gel in one process. The engine components consist of the first peeler, the second peeler, the outlet and the frame. Aloe vera leaves went through two peeling processes. Then the separated skin and gel were passed into different channels. The peeling machine used an electric motor to rotate the roller in the second peeling so that the aloe vera leaves enter the machine automatically. The prototype of the machine has been designed and built. The peeling results were divided into 5 parts, namely two side skins, top skin, bottom skin, and aloe vera gel. However, the peeling results were still not optimal, there were remained aloe vera gel attached to the skin. In addition, the slip that occurs on the peeling roller was still high.
